A Candlelight Dinner....

The other night at dinner we dimmed the lights and lit a candle. We heard somewhere that this was suppose to provide a soothing and relaxing environment that would help reduce the stress level and help calm the kids during dinner.

YEAH RIGHT!

Aside, from the girls going crazy about lighting the candle, they could hardly sit still throughout the meal because they couldn't wait to blow it out at the end!

So, what we thought would help create a more peaceful and relaxing environment, turned out to add more fuel to the fire! In fact, our little one doesn't want anything to do with her high chair anymore (Lord, help us!). She wants to be front and center with big sister making sure she's in on the action.

So was it a total disaster...Nah!

Even though it's not what we had orginally intended, the candle is becoming a way to signal the starting and ending times of our meals together.
The kids look forward to it, so much so that they can't wait to sit down at the table together! What more can you ask for, right (especially these days)?

I think we may have stumbled upon a cool little family tradition afterall!

Awsome idea!

I was just reading in a family magazine at the doctor's office on tuesday something similar. One mother measured how much her daughter practiced piano by lighting a candle every time she started and stopped practicing. And it was a reward system too! When the candle was done the little girl got a treat.

I'm on the organizing hop today from your yesterday post. Andrew's closet was slowly becoming a disaster. If the weather would warm up we'd meet you for popsicles on the porch :-)

Hope you are having a good day !!!

Monica,

Girl I thought you knew candles were for big folks! At least your kids don't sit on top of the table like mine! That is a pretty cool idea about signaling to the kids that dinner is about to start. My brother has a Bcahelor of Arts degree doesn't he!
