Hi Melanie, I have only just discovered your blog - I was doing a google search for teaching ideas on 1 Corinthians 13 to children, and it directed me to a post you wrote back in 2007!
I have just been brought to tears reading this story by Bunny Wilson - what an incredibly powerful and humbling story that reminds us so well of not only the importance of God pruning us, but of our willingness to be pruned. Thankyou for sharing. I am glad to have been led here in my lesson planning!

Bravo, Melanie! These are very inspiring words indeed and cause for deep introspection. As I look upon the amazing husband and the gift of marriage that God has recently given me, I take this verse to heart and oh, so seriously.

Rephrasing your own words, what a privilege we have as wives to be participants with God in the building up of the mighty men He is creating and calling our husbands to be!

This post really spoke to me today....thank you for your candor in sharing this. My 5-yr-old and I have been fighting quite a bit lately. I've been crying out to God, asking Him if he has removed His hand from wanting us to homeschool. I've told my son over and over and over and over that I'm just going to enroll him in public school. Most of the time he cries and tells me that he wants me to be his teacher. (What a mean mommy he has!)

Anyway, I've been hearing from the Lord lately, and I finally realized as I was reading your post that He hasn't removed his hand from homeschooling, but rather the nature in which we homeschool.....(I could go on and on, but maybe I should save that for my own blog, hmmmm?) =)

Stopping by from Seeds of Faith - glad I found your blog. This post really resonated with me because I have dealt with these same issues as a SAHM. One verse that has really spoken to me is this: "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God." (Col. 3:2-3). I definitely have felt like my life is "hidden" because I'm certainly not setting the world on fire with myself, like I once thought I would do when I had more worldly ambitions. Instead, as moms, we are faithfully carrying out the greatest task we could ever have been given! Thank you sharing your heart about this!

There is just so much opposition against the home these days. We moms need to know our worth, value and the important roles we play. Thank you for sharing this. I just made a comment to my husband last night that "I will never find my calling in life"...(as I pulled a botched dozen of nasty homemade cupcakes out of the oven). He said "What are you talking about? This is it!" and motioned to the house. Then he proceeded to tell me all the ways I am needed, appreciated, and gifted as a stay at home Mom. Success is about God's perspective, not the world's. Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing how God is working in your life. God blessed me immeasurably during my season as a stay at home mom. And He used my role as a caregiver to my elderly parents in our home as the setting by which He exposed our sin and drew my husband and me closer to each other and to Himself.
